Eruption Case Study - Mount St. Helens

As part of their Geography IGCSE course, form 4 have been studying famous volcanic eruptions that would serve as good case studies for their final exam. Below is a well researched case study of Mount St. Helens in The United States by Brittany.

Mount St. Helens had a well documented eruption in 1980. Below Brittany tells us more...

  1. Form 4. Remember part of your homework this week is to look at both of these case studies and make a comment. The first half of the comment will be a constructive criticism (where it could have been better). The second half is where you thought it was good and why.

  2. It could have been better if there is a little bit more information about the secondary impacts of the volcano. But, I think the case study is good because it gives a lot of information that can be easy to remember. Plus, it has a nice diagram, which makes it easy to understand on how volcano was formed.

  3. It would be better if there is more information about the impact of the volcanic eruption. But overall, it is very good work. It is good to read and understand.

  4. It would have been better if she had described the features of the volcano and she could have done better if she had more information about the impacts of the Mt.Saint Helens.
I personally think it's good because she has a diagram which is specifically for Mount Saint Helens which actually makes it easier to understand how the volcano is formed.

  5. it could've been better if there was more information in the case study like more on the primary and secondary impacts, added some pictured of the aftermath of the eruption, like cars and houses destroyed. But, overall this was a good case study, great diagrams explaining how it was formed and where the volcano is located.

  6. It could have been better if you included more photographs of the volcano itself. i think this case study is really well organized and is easy to read through. the diagram and explanation on how Mt saint helens was formed was well written and extremely detailed. Thanks Brittany, this will really help the whole class and future tests and i appreciate all the effort you've put into this :)

  7. Even better if you shown the change in shape of the volcano besides describing it -YH

  8. It would slightly improve the work if you added more points to the short terms / long term escpecially the short term (government aid , shelter tents) but it is really good easiest to understand good quality work. -Patrick

well done brittany ! Its really good compare to mine, u have ur own diagram and good sentence structure. However my suggestion is that u can add more description on how the magma formed instead of telling.

  11. The secondary impacts can be made longer and give more detail and information. The forming of Mount Helens is very good, it is made exclusive for Mount St Helens and contains great detail.

  12. You could improve if you added more points to the primary and secondary impacts overall its really good

  13. 1)If there were more primary and secondary impacts were mentioned
2)Overall the images and text used are easy to read and understand.

  14. I think that Brittany could have written more for the secondary and primary impact and go into detail for it.But other than that the whole document was pretty good especially since she made her own diagram and was able to label it and be clear about the whole case study. :)

  15. 1) It would have been better if you added a lot more detail towards the impacts and the case study in general.

    2) The diagrams were easy to read, accurate and labelled which was good.

  16. I think you could've talked more about the primary and secondary impacts but other than that this is very easy to understand and a good case study. This will be useful for future reference. Well done Brittany!
